The MOTEx-Analysis contributes to the efficiency enhancement in knowledge management and to the identification of needed tools to improve it. It identifies the relevant contributions of people, organisation, techniques and external personnel to the knowledge management within the corporation. By filling a customer inquiry it is evaluated what the requirements are regarding to the knowledge management. These requirements are subdivided into strategic and operative areas: business culture, organisation of information, methods for the management of knowledge and technical aids for the management of knowledge.

Further on the MOTEx-Analysis derives from the demand to design processes for handling the knowledge in a manner that they support the employees and the culture of the corporation. Before measures are introduced, a holistic classification of people, organisation, technique and customers has to be implemented. Through employee surveys the perceived quality of the existing knowledge management is compared to enterprise goals. Only through this synthesis, measures are deduced, which fill existing gaps in the transfer of knowledge management.
